Wednesday – 11 February 2009
We’ll be hosting a new type of event tomorrow, at room S0.18 in the social studies. We’ve been approached by individuals Israelis, and together with individuals from the Friends of Palestine society, we’ll have a joint meeting and discussion.
The idea that has been proposed to us is for both sides to approach a series of topics and present them – but taking the role of the other side. Therefore some of us have been looking at materials sent by fellow Israeli students, and we have sent some material on their side, each to be presenting the topic from the other side’s point of view.
Given that this has been organised on a very short notice, and to keep things simple for the first meeting, we’ve selected some uncontroversial topics for this Wednesday- the meaning of the flag of each side, and the significance of Jerusalem in cultural and religious (but not political or in terms of prospects of a solution) terms.
Each side’s presentation will be short, and the floor will be open later for discussion. Please join us in this, and help us see how we can expand the idea and process in the future.
